Aston Martin was founded by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford in 1914.They had earlier been selling cars made by Singer and also serviced GWK and Calthorpe vehicles. It was actually in their workshop that they decided to start making their own vehicles. Their first Aston Martin car was using a four-cylinder Coventry-Simples engine fitted to the chassis of a 1908 Isotta-Fraschini. Through the years, Aston Martin has been known as a manufacturer who prides itself in quality rather than quantity. In fact, it has sold around 20,000 vehicles ever since its conception. Its DB5 brand appeared in James Bond movies, the Goldfinger in 1964.Even with relative success, Aston Martin had changes ownership several times and the company runs bankrupt. Ford Motors saw this has an opportunity contemplated purchasing Aston Martin. They later sold the company to ford in 1987.However; Ford Motors also underwent serious financial pressure that they wanted to sell the company in 2006.They had to wait a year later, in 12 march 2007 when consortium led by Prodrive chairman David Richards purchased Aston Martin for $848 million. Ford maintained a $77 million stake in the company. After the purchase, the last car produced at the Newport Pagnell was a Vanguish S. This plant alone had made nearly 13,000 cars since 1955.Aston Martin took back all production s to their old premises in Tickford Road and Newport Pagnell remained as the restoration and service department. Ever since Aston Villa opened more dealers in Europe, the company has gained considerable popularity. It also now has branches in China and brought their dealership programme to 120 dealers in 28 countries.
